Summary: Chris remembers the good times.

There had been some good times.

Chris sat slumped heavily against the wall, letting the bottle hang from his fingers.

He remembered Wesker's rare smiles. The sound of his laugh when a joke finally cracked his exterior. He remembered his captain's arm thrown across his shoulders as they limped back from a STARS mission.

He remembered Wesker screaming his name and reaching out toward him in the end.

He took a long slug of bourbon.

Before Wesker had gone insane. Before Chris had to kill the man he loved.

There had been some good times. That was the worst part.

This was lovely. You are always able to put so much emotion into such a bite-sized piece of work and this was a wonderful little peek into Chris' pain and heartbreak for killing his (ex)captain. The fact that Wesker wasn't just Chris' superior--just some man Chris had looked up to or maybe even idolized--but someone with a human side that could show kindness, humor and love had to make his betrayal and death so much more devastating for Chris.

I agree, their relationship is incredibly tragic. Of course Wesker's more human side could have been chalked up to trying to manipulate Chris, but I feel that showing emotion (especially happiness) would be something rather alien to Wesker considering his upbringing. I think his small smiles and laughs would be genuine and, after discovering more about Wesker's past, Chris would realize that and it would hurt all the more knowing that Wesker had shown him something so beautifully vulnerable and human no matter how infrequent it was.
